Story:

The large July Buck Moon rose over the tree lined horizon as Julius set his plan into motion to proposed marriage to the love of his life.  Laying a blanket on the freshly cut grass, he thought to himself, “Lizzy is going to be so surprised. She will never expect a midnight dinner under the stars.”

He found a crevice in the trunk of a Manitoba Maple and hid the ring..

Due to the unusually warm Ontario summer night, Lizzy arrived wearing a sundress the colour of a yellow squash.  Her eyes sparkled when she saw the spread Julius had place out.

“Oh what a wonderful treats, all my favourites, three bean salad chicken legs and garlic bread. Oh what are you up too” she spoke in loving playful way

“I just thought you love a night under the stars”

As they were finishing up their meal, they were startled by a rustling in nearby corn field then a weird whining sound.  Julius jumped up to investigate with Lizzy right behind him.  Narrowing in on the sound he honed in on it and started to weave in and out of the rows of corn.

Lizzy stood at the edge of the field watching the corn stocks sway back and forth by Julius’ movement and snickered to herself. His movements remaindered her of Jaws and how the shark would weave through the water.

Suddenly there was a yelp and the whimpering stopped. Julius emerged from the field with something tiny in his hand.  When Lizzy saw it she fell in love with this tiny little puppy but she noticed the poor thing was hurt and his fur which should be white was the colour of beet juice.

Julius brought him back to the blanket and gave him a bit of water and some chicken, which he wolfed it down.

“Oh we have to call him Beetle Juice because he startled us and he is the colour of beets.” She spoke in  a low voice as not to scare the puppy.

The word “we” made Julius’ heart jump for joy.  He went over to the tree and pulled out the ring got on one knee and proposed.  “Lizzy you know that we have been dating since last August and I love you with all my heart.  Now with this little one coming into our lives, I believe the universe is saying ‘we should be together forever’. Will you Marry Me?”

“Oh Julius!! Yes! Yes I will Marry You.” she exclaimed as tears of joy filled her eyes.

After he placed the ring on her hand he picked up Beetle Juice and said “Welcome to the Chapman’s family little one.”

The three of them lying on the blanket looked up at the stars with their hearts will filled with love, joy and contentment.
