While Doug Ford is still moving forward to reopen the Ontario Economy, he has extended the state of emergency till June 9th. Certain business are being allowed to open as long as they follow the appropriate protective measures.

We will hear that registered health professional will start to open, when their offices are retrofitted with protective measures and/or protocols . This will include dentists, chiropractors, homeopaths, massage therapists, opticians, optometrists, etc.

How Does This Effect Us and Self Isolation?

There has been uptick in the number of case in Ontario so they are still asking those over 70 or who have underline health conditions to continue to self isolate during this first few stages of reopening in Ontario.

If we are unable to self isolate, they ask that we continue to take special care when we are out. This includes, not gathering with anyone that does not live within our homes, maintaining physical distance, wearing a mask and keeping close tabs on our health.

This means couples who both receive Old Age Security and/or Guaranteed Income will receive Up To $1000

“The one-time payment for seniors is non-taxable. You will receive the full amount (no withholds). You will not receive a tax slip and you will not have to report this amount in your 2020 tax return.”

GIS and Allowance Extensions

The Government understands that the state of emergence we are in can hinder many of us from having access to send our 2019 income information out especially those in self isolation.

To ensure that the most vulnerable seniors continue to receive their benefits when they need them the most. The Government is is temporarily extending GIS and Allowance Payments for those who’s 2019 income information has not been assessed. To avoid any interruption in benefits, we are encouraged to submit our 2019 income information as soon as possible but no later than by October 1, 2020.
