Monthly Book Club – February – Hidden Figures

Did you know that the WAAC has a monthly book club?

That’s right! We meet the last Thursday of the month for lively discussions on the book of the month, leading to greater insight, understanding and appreciation of the written word.

This month’s book is Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly. The book takes place from the 1930s through the 1960s, depicting the particular barriers for Black women in science during this time, thereby providing a lesser-known history of NASA. The biographical text follows the lives of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, three mathematicians who worked as computers (then a job description) at NACA and NASA, during the space race. They overcame discrimination there, as women and as African Americans.

Join Raini and other bibliophiles February 23rd at 6:30pm to join the discussion!
