There’s nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer

“The unselfish effort to bring cheer to others will be the beginning of a happier life for ourselves.” — Helen Keller
(Senior’s Fair 2019)

“There’s nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer.“ James Doolittle

This simple quote speaks volumes.  For over 45 years our members have always been the body of the Wallaceburg Adult Activity Centre while our volunteers have been our heart and soul. We would not be where we are today without them. The heart of our volunteers over the years has established us as a strong pillar in our community.

Did you know when you volunteer you are not just helping others, but you are helping yourself as well?

There are some major health benefits to volunteering. Studies have shown that by volunteering you can decrease your blood pressure, and stress levels while increasing your long-term and short-term memory. By challenging you to create new skill sets while learning new tasks, it increases your ability to problem solve.

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” — Helen Keller
(Wambo Pie and Ice Cream Volunteers 2018)

By providing a sense of purpose, volunteering can help in the battle against depression, and regular contact with others develops that much needed support system. Volunteering has away helping take your mind off your own worries, with mentally stimulation thus putting a little more pizzazz in your life.

If you would like to make a difference in someone else’s life while putting a little more pizzazz into yours, contact us to inquire about our volunteer opportunities, such as being a board member, a committee member, a greeter, or giving us a hand at our WAMBO fundraiser. You do not need to be a member to volunteer; however, membership does have privileges.

“The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention.”Oscar Wilde
