Trivia Thursday~~ January 14, 2021

Are you ready for our 36th edition of Trivia Thursday? With the weather being a little wacky this month, what better time then to do some Weather Trivia. Each question is related Canadian Weather in some way. Taking into consideration that this subject may be hard one, 8/10 of the questions have hints added to them. Think you know the answers? Are you up to the challenge?

As usual the trivia questions will be listed with a short story below which has the answers hidden with in it. Some answers are obvious while others might be harder to figure out. The answers are posted in the comment section. Do you think you can solve them?

6. Which city in Ontario is known as the stormiest city in Canada? (Hint: Not far from us)
7. Grand Banks Newfoundland is known for being one of the world’s richest fishing grounds but it is also know being this in Canada? (Hint: Could be as thick as pea soup)
8. What weather event kills the most people in Canada on average each year? (Hint: layering will help prevent it)
9. The greatest single-day snowfall recorded in Canada was February 11, 1999, when this lake area in, British Columbia, was blanketed with nearly a metre and a half of the white stuff (145 cm). Name the Lake.
10. One of the largest hailstones on record in Canada  fell near Cedoux Saskatchewan.  How much did it weigh in grams?  (Hint: It converts to just over ½ a pound)

Story

The day was cold and the winds were fierce as Mitchell walked down Midale Ave towards the pharmacy hoping that was open.  The radio called for it to be the snowiest day of the year and that everyone should stay in unless it was an emergency. For Mitchell this was an emergency, his daughter need medication and it could not wait till the storm was over. He did not have the foggiest idea what he would do if they were not open. 

Quietly he prayed. “Please let it be open, and please keep Tahtsa safe till I return.”

Hoping that cold temperature exposure would not overcome him he hurried down the street keeping an eye on street lights to help navigate his way.  He turned left and came to 290 Manyberries. Finally his destination was within reach.  .

The flashing open sign brought forth a sigh of relief from him as the automatic doors swung inward.  “ I just have to snag up her meds then back out into the cold.”  

He walked up to the pharmacist “Prescription for Tahtsa Windsor, please.”

“Just a moment” the pharmacist replied with a smile and then quickly ducking behind a counter.  “Tahtsa, you said, could you please spell that”

“T A H T S A.”

“I have it right here.  It still needs to be filled I will do it right now. If you do not mind to wait a few minutes, it will give you time to warm up.”

Mitchell decided to walk around the small store to see if there was anything else they may need when he spotted a Yellow Grass skirt in the tiny toy aisle.  “Oh how she would love this. I can just see her dancing and twirling around in this” he unknowingly chuckled loud enough for the pharmacist to hear him.

“Mr Windsor, The prescription is done” the pharmacist called out to him.

He snagged up the skirt and headed to the counter. He noticed the pharmacist was putting his coat on.

Smiling at Mitchell he announced. “It is time to close up and I realized you are just around the block from me so please let me drive you home.”

Mitchell was surprised but happy he did not have walk home in the cold and accept his offer.  He pulled out his wallet to pay for the yellow grass skirt since Tahtsa’s medications were covered by his work.  The pharmacist stopped him.

“No No you put that away, the skirt is on me. It has been in that spot for almost 3 years now and your little girl will enjoy it.”  He handed Mitchell the prescriptions in a small paper bag.

“Come on now, I am just parked out front. Let’s get you home so you can watch your little princess dance around.” The pharmacist did a little twirl that made both men snicker

 “Thank you so much, I really appreciate this” with a smile and a tear in his eye Mitchell felt his prayers had been answered.
