Virtual Tour – Tower of London

Today’s virtual tour takes us to merry, old England, where we are going on a tour of the Tower of London. Until just a few years ago, I had thought that the Tower of London was just that – a medieval tower, used as a jail to house criminals and enemies of the state until their release. Or their execution. You could have knocked me down with a feather when I found out that the Tower was much more. It is an entire complex that served not only as a jail for highborn troublemakers, but it was also the royal palace for more than 500 years. The grounds housed a menagerie of exotic animals and the public could pay an admission fee to tour the zoo. Built to celebrate the Norman conquest of Britain, the Tower of London began construction in 1066 and today is one of the most visited tourist attractions in London.
